Suffering in Good Humor

June 24, 2018

“Humor was another of the soul’s weapons in the fight for self-preservation. It is well known that humor, more than anything else in the human make-up, can afford an aloofness and an ability to rise above any situation.”

Pain, guilt, death.  Frankl’s “Tragic Triad”.  We can’t escape them, so we may as well find a way to giggle through them, right?

I’ve been known to refer to The Office quite a bit.  Maybe a little too much.  It’s my go-to in difficult times.  Lately I’ve been laughing through Arrested Development.  Thank goodness for Netflix – it’s changing the way we watch tv, and sometimes even in a good way.

Friends are a great source of humor.  When you’re down, I hope you have a few jokesters in your life than can lighten a dark mood.

It’s not always easy to find humor when we are dealing with life’s tragedies.  But humor does make tragedy a little bit easier.  If there is no way to escape it, we can choose our attitude towards it.  We can face it with a giggle, or if we’re lucky, maybe an all-out guffaw.

In honor of the FIFA World Cup currently taking place, here is my favorite little bit of futball humor.
