There is Enough of You

September 12, 2021

“The right attitude to the horror of existence—the alternative to resentment, deceit, and arrogance—is the assumption that there is enough of you, society, and the world to justify existence. That is faith in yourself, your fellow man, and the structure of existence itself: the belief that there is enough to you to contend with existence and transform your life into the best it could be. Perhaps you could live in a manner whose nobility, grandeur, and intrinsic meaning would be of sufficient import that you could tolerate the negative elements of existence without becoming so bitter as to transform everything around you into something resembling hell”

– Jordan B. Peterson – Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life

Life is difficult.  Living well can be even more difficult.  Some days it can feel like the world, your job, your relationships, your family, your self… like they are all out to get you.  And, some days, THEY ARE!  Or some combination of them are.  But, in the final analysis, there is enough of you.  You have the tools, skills, ability to have a go at it, maybe even to be successful at it.

And when you feel like you don’t have the tools, skill, or ability to be successful at life…  Well, then it is time to ask for help, to seek guidance, to get counsel.  Every great story throughout history has a tragically flawed hero – that hero always has a mentor.  Be the hero of your story, and when you find that you are tragically flawed, seek counsel in a mentor.  I can help.  So can books, podcasts, lectures, etc.  Here are two that really worked for me.

Take care.  – Dan
