Discovering Meaning in Awakening

March 17, 2025

As I sit here embracing our last day in the Colorado mountains, I am overwhelmed with Gratitude and some sadness.  In my work here, I have been reminded of many of the Logotherapy principals I teach daily – that suffering is a part of life, especially the suffering of loss, but that it can be turned into achievement; we all have a defiant human spirit that can help us drive toward those achievements; and there is ‘something’ out there – Frankl calls it “Ultimate Meaning” that unifies us and our ideas, especially when we focus on something greater than ourselves.

It’s been an amazing two weeks here in Evergreen.  But I am looking forward to working with clients face-to-face again – but I also wonder if I will ever come back to this place in a different way.  I know once I leave, it will take quite a while to integrate these experiences into who I am and where I am going.

In this episode of the Meaning Project podcast, Dr. Dan reflects on his recent experiences in Colorado, exploring themes of meaning, spirituality, and the human condition. He discusses insights from Mark Nepo’s ‘Book of Awakening’ and connects them to Viktor Frankl’s teachings on suffering, guilt, and death. The conversation emphasizes the importance of embracing life’s challenges, finding meaning in suffering, and the role of community in personal growth.
