Love & Podcasts in the Time of COVID-quarantine

April 19, 2020

I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to be the most loving husband and father after being in the same house nearly 24-hours a day for the past several weeks.  This is a trying time – a fascinating one if you let it be – but a difficult one for many of us.

I found this in some reading recently and thought you might find it helpful – I know it struck me.

From Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning:

Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality. No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him. By his love he is enabled to see the essential traits and features in the beloved person; and even more, he sees that which is potential in him, which is not yet actualized but yet ought to be actualized. Furthermore, by his love, the loving person enables the beloved person to actualize these potentialities.  By making him aware of what he can be and of what he should become, he makes these potentialities come true.

Again, it’s hard to see someone’s “potentialities” and truly love them when you are with them all-day every-day.  But it is something to aspire to.  As I’ve been writing during this time, this time presents many opportunities to discover new meaning, and in loving our family and those we are “physically distancing” with we can continue to find more.

As I’ve been encouraging you to seek meaning during this time, I’ve been challenging myself to do the same – in between rounds of binge-watching Netflix, of course.  I’ve been looking at new ways to help people, and one of the ideas that seemed pretty obvious was PODCASTING.  As someone who may have been reading this for a while, or maybe even worked with me – or even if you are just happening to fall upon this writing for the first time – would you take a minute or two and share your thoughts on that idea?  What would you think about a “Dr. Dan / Logotherapy / Psychology of Meaning” Podcast?

I’ve put a few questions together here – shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes – many thanks!  – Dan
