My Afternoon with Johann Hari

October 18, 2020

Seeking out and engaging in interesting experiences can be very meaningful.  Nature, Music, Art, Speakers – I’ve found all of them meaningful at different times.

Last week I had the opportunity to experience some time with one of my favorite authors – Johann Hari.  It was pretty awesome – when you have the chance to meet someone you respect and appreciate, do it.

As I’ve mentioned before – in last week’s blog post, in fact – his writing, as an investigative journalistic, brings together diverse sources into a cohesive message.  His latest book, Lost Connections, analyzes the opinions and research on the current models of depression treatment.

His previous book, Chasing the Scream, chronicles The War and Drugs and our difficulties as a culture treating addiction.  As I told him, this book changed the way I help people struggling addictions.

Of the discussions we had, and the information he shared, I really appreciated this description of his creative process, and how he has decided on writing these past two books.

I recommend both of these books for their separate topics – but also for the amazing, and perhaps frightening, connections between the two.
