Leaders are those people around you who choose to take charge, but do so in a tactful, respectful manner, They are self-aware and recognize their own biases and how they affect others. They choose responsibly and act with integrity. They aim to make those around them better, and make themselves better in the process. They are constantly, learning, growing, and evolving.
Leaders listen.
Managers are often thrust into position because they were good at a previous task. Someone above them thinks, “you were good at making widgets, so you should be good at managing other people who make widgets.” They appreciate the power of their position, but often don’t know how to use it in a way that benefits everyone. Occasionally they act from power, but not responsibility. They need to grow, but don’t always know how. They often need a little help.
Managers tell.
Anyone can lead from any position in an organization. Leading is a choice. Learning to lead is an opportunity for growth.
Managers are appointed. They are placed in position by someone of higher authority.
Managers can always choose to lead.
Leaders do far more than just manage.
YOU get to choose which you want to be.
In your home. In you family. In your community. In your job. In your organization.
In your life.
Choose responsibly.
