Although the “true” end of summer is not for a few more weeks, Labor Day in the US typically marks the transition from Summer to Fall, and for many of us life changes as kids go back to school or college. Labor Day can also be a time to slow down and think about the upcoming season – whether that is the Fall season, or a new season in your life. So, hopefully you can take some time to think about what the next few months of 2022 will look like for you. I hope you have a relaxing and meaningful Labor Day holiday!
Since it is Labor Day – a day free from work, I thought this episode of The Meaning Project Podcast might resonate with you – here is The Great Resignation and The Meaning of Work from earlier this year.
And then I also re-released an episode from several years ago today. As you may know, I’ve taken a little time off from the podcast this summer to travel and spend time with friends and family, so the past few episodes have ben re-releases of some classic interviews or discussions. But, after this episode, we will be back to live new content. Enjoy!
For this episode, we go back into The Meaning Project archives to a past discussion with Sarah D., a client I worked with almost two decades ago, who is now a mental health professional.
In the early days of my career, I worked with adolescents in an “innovative and successful” intensive substance abuse treatment program. I think this may have been the first place I started to understand the concept of “meaning” as it relates to human suffering and substance abuse. In this episode, Sarah and I discuss her history of substance use, chronic illness, and how she has transcended both over the past 16+ years.
