We are nearly two weeks into the new year. If you are like many people, this is about the time motivation and practice drop off for those resolutions we set a few weeks ago.
But if you are still at it – still exercising, still changing your diet, still abstaining of cutting back on your smoking, still working on a better marriage, still working on a better you: GOOD JOB! KEEP IT UP!
But if you’ve fallen off – if you missed the gym a few times, fallen out of love with your treadmill, had a few too many “cheat meals”, gave in to stress and had a few cigarettes, or gotten angry with your partner, THAT’S GREAT TOO – WE CAN WORK WITH THAT!
Each failed attempt adds to a reservoir of resolve that makes the next attempt a little more likely to succeed.Behavior change is hard. Relapse or regression back to old behavior is part of the human condition. But so is struggling to succeed.
If you’ve fallen away from goals, review your goals, what caused the issue, and set a new start date. Start today, or look at next week, or maybe next month. Whatever you choose, just start again. The goal was obviously important enough for you to start a few weeks ago. It is just as important – maybe even more important – for you to start again.
Good luck!
