What If You Aren’t “Broken” – Just Disoriented?

July 19, 2026

People often arrive in therapy saying some version of:

“Nothing is terribly wrong. I just don’t know what I’m doing anymore.”

They assume the problem is motivation. Or gratitude. Or discipline. Sometimes they worry they are depressed, selfish, or failing at a life that looks perfectly good from the outside.

But there is another possibility.

You may not be broken.

You may have lost your bearings.

The work that once organized your life no longer needs you in the same way. A relationship changed. The children grew up. The goal was achieved. The old map still exists—but it no longer describes the terrain you are standing in.

That kind of disorientation cannot always be solved by trying harder.

Sometimes the first question is not:

How do I fix myself?

It is:

Where am I now—and what is life asking of me here?

I’ve been spending a great deal of time with that question lately.

More to come.
